A. Imagine you are somewhere lovely and peaceful. Perhaps a clear-water brook winding through a forest; a white, sandy beach; a country chapel; a cozy fireplace.
B. Now imagine a wise, compassionate figure is with you. It might be a loved one, like a grandmother, or it might be an imaginary figure. Or, you might imagine Jesus is there with you.
C. Think of some area of your life where you need encouragement, care, or support, and imagine how this person might respond.
What might they say to you? How might they say it? What is their tone? Their fascial expression? Their body language?
Let yourself bask in their compassion to you.
D. When you are done with this visualization, get curious about the ways your body responded to the experiences of compassion.
You might also pick one thing your compassionate figure did or said that you want to practice with yourself the rest of the week.
If you want to learn simple, effective practices to help your body feel safe and loved, my virtual trauma-release class is this upcoming Sunday or Monday.
Each month’s class is unique, a blend of practices taught in past classes and new practices.
